Chris Dennis

Professional Tuba Player

Chris was born in Reading and was a member of Berkshire Young Musicians Trust from the age of 5. In 1999 he took up the tuba under instruction from Tony George and James Doherty and became a BYMT scholar joining many of their ensembles.


In 2010, Chris graduated from Trinity College of Music where he studied with Oren Marshall and George Wall. He played with many of their ensembles and has performed in masterclasses with Michel Goddard, Jen Bjorn-Larsen, Sergio Carolino, Sam Elliot and Gene Porkony.


Since leaving college, Chris has performed with many orchestras including Orchestra of St Paul’s, Orchestra of the City, London Irish Symphony Orchestra, Amadeus Orchestra, Windsor & Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra, The Rehearsal Orchestra and Dartington Festival Orchestra. Chris has also performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in the BBC Proms as part of the Between the Notes Project.


In 2006, Chris founded the brass ensemble YouTuba, along with three friends from Trinity College of Music. In 2008 YouTuba won the highly prestigious Philip Jones Brass Ensemble Prize. Since then YouTuba have become a highly acclaimed brass quartet, performing far and wide; including a tour to Switzerland in 2010 and the release of their critically acclaimed album Carnival. They also regularly deliver workshops and performances for the charity Live Music Now.
